A great number of sacrifices were offered during the Passover week and sales in the temple court were large and loud.  The noise sounded more like a cattle market than the sacred temple of God.  Between the sounds of hard bargaining and angry arguments came the bleating of sheep, the lowing of cattle, the cooing of doves, and the clinking of many coins.  The uproar and confusion were so loud that worshippers inside the temple could not hear the prayers of the priests.
