The animal sellers took advantage of the people by demanding terribly high prices for the animals they sold. Since the worshippers had been taught that they must offer a sacrifice or risk losing the blessing of God on their family and lands, they were trapped. Having traveled so far, they could not return home without offering a sacrifice. So they paid the awful prices and the sellers divided the profits with the temple priests.
