The Messiah will be born ” ‘ in the town of Bethlehem in Judea,’ ” they reported.  ” ‘ The prophet [Micah] wrote about this in the Scriptures:  “But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are important among the tribes of Judah.  A ruler will come from you who will be like a shepherd for my people Israel” ‘ ” [Matthew 2:5, 6].

Hearing this, Herod then met privately with the wise men.  Inside he was boiling with anger and fear, but his face was calm.  Politely he asked when the star had appeared.  He acted joyful to hear the news of the Messiah’s birth.  “Search for this child,” he said to this visitors, “and when you find him, come and tell me.  Then I can go and worship him also.”

Herod then sent them on their way to Bethlehem.
