     But when they asked, no one knew what they were talking about.  They found their way to the temple, where to their amazement, no one knew anything about a newborn king.  Worse still, rather than causing joy, their questions brought them looks of fear and contempt.

     Even the priests ~ the teachers of Scripture and prophecy ~ had no interest in their questions.  These priests looked down on them as heathen ~ non-Jews who were no better than the Romans or Greeks.  But in God’s eyes, the wise men stood closer to heaven than the tradition-bound priests.
