God’s promise that the Firstborn of heaven would be given to save sinners, what an amazing thing it was when the Baby Jesus was presented at the temple!  The priest went through the motions.  Little did he think, as the baby lay in his arms, that he was holding the Majesty of Heaven, the King of glory, the reason behind all the Jewish ceremonies.

This sleeping baby was the Promised One, the Messiah.  To Moses, He called Himself “I AM.”  He was in the pillar of clouds and fire that led the Israelites through the desert.  For centuries, prophets had spoken of Him:  the Offspring of David, the Morning Star, the Desire of all nations.  He was the hope of fallen humanity.  In the simple temple service, the Son of God was dedicated to work He had come to do.  The priest did not see or feel anything special, but God’s act in giving His Son to the world was seen.  Someone did recognize the Messiah.
