For more than a thousand years, the Jewish people waited for the arrival of the Savior, the Promised One, the Messiah.  Their brightest hopes rested on this promise.  Songs, prophecies, temple services, and household prayers all called out His name.  Then, when He did arrive, they did not even recognize Him.

God chose the nation of Israel as the ones who would remember His laws and the symbols and prophecies that pointed to the coming Savior.  God wanted them to be fountains of information about Him to the world.  Abraham had done this when he wandered the land.  Joseph had spoken for God in Egypt.  Daniel was a light for God in the courts of Babylon.  The Hebrew people were to do the same among the nations of the world.  They were to tell others about the true God of heaven.
