Washington replied, “You walked sixty miles in this weather to save the life of your enemy?  I will grant you his pardon.”

Miller hurried to the place of execution, pardon in hand, arriving just as the man was being led to the scaffold.  Seeing Miller, Widman remarked, “There is old Peter Miller.  He has come to have his revenge gratified by seeing me hanged.”

But Miller placed the pardon in the captain’s hand, and Widman’s life was spared.

Romans 5:10 says, “for if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconcilied to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconcilied, shall we be saved through His life!”
